Pull Those Splinters Out Of Your ****

It’s Time To Have An Opinion…

If I’m on the computer at 9pm here in the UK I know it’s TELive time, and I will listen away to the gossip going round the world of timtech. The main topic this week according to Larry is Wussification, which is a made up word, but as you will later I think he might be onto something.

Example 1

Some sites like sweeva allow you to write comments that mean you can give feedback on what you see. Now I have an opinion, and when I see people promoting blatant scam sites such as JSS tripler, pre-launch cash grabs, or matrix sites where a single $20 investment turns into thousands I will post a comment to try and educate people not to promote this sort of crap.

By doing this I’m standing up and trying to educate people, and if everyone did the same then perhaps one day the internet will be free from the scumbags behind these sites who prey on vulnerable people.

Example 2

I like spending time in the warrior forum, and it really annoys me that when a thread on how to start building a list appears that someone with a low post count will appear and say “Buy solo adverts” as if it is the answer to everything, and we would all be millionaires through this approach.

This is just wrong, when you start out buying a solo advert is probably only just slightly better than trying a PPC campaign – at least with the solo advert it’s a one off loss of cash rather than $25 a day for nothing. Generally if you have to ask such basic questions you’re not ready to buy advertising, and you need to think like an offline business person for a moment.

For example recommending an advert on local radio to a new business owner is a great idea, but if the owner has not set up their shop, has no method of taking payment from the customer, and the radio station you recommend is in a different state then it’s not really great advice is it?

When using forum marketing make sure that you add value, and try to encourage people to think in more detail about the question rather than just giving the expected stock answer.

But what if I upset someone?

I’m now back at Larry’s wussification point.

Did you notice the strong headline to this post, the use of 4 stars in a headline is a bold move on my part. I know that some people will unsubscribe from my list as a result of this headline, but guess what I don’t care. You see the whole point of this blog is to use it as a channel to reflect my personality and build relationships with people.

I actually respect people who are prepared to show enough passion to swear about something, but like everything if it’s overused then and every other word is a F Bomb then you need to grow up. It’s all about getting a happy medium and knowing what’s appropriate.

When I see Larry & Patrick get on the screen and start talking I get excited as most of the time we share a common view on life. For example today’s rant was about the people who try to blame everyone else for picking a sub standard programme to promote on a traffic exchange and then quit 3 months later having spend a lot of money and made zero return.

If you want to succeed in life you are going to have to take risks, voice your opinions, and generally run the risk of upsetting someone in the process. By sitting on the fence trying to please everyone all your doing is getting a splinter in your butt, and eventually this will hurt you in one way or another.

Be Brave

Stop being the person who walks past things, let the world know who you are and what you stand for.

I guess what I’m saying is that you’ve made it this far, so it’s time to write a comment and tell the world your opinion!

Andrew

One of the best posts I’ve read in a long long time Andrew. Thank you for this. It’s remarkable the heat people catch for just having opinions….But you know what, the people who do stand up for things and make their opinions heard, usually come out on top….Food for thought =)

    Hi Andrew,

Well it is 1am on Friday morning and I am just putting the finishing touches to this morning’s Friday Newsletter so I win the late night blogging bragging rights for this week.

But back to the subject at hand…I really don’t think it is possible to have a presence online without upsetting people.

There are many, many reasons why people might like you and why they might do business with you but there are also many, many reasons why people might not like you and might choose not do business with you.

If you are working online and you can’t stand the thought of ruffling a few feathers from time to time then perhaps you are not really cut out for a career online.

It would be nice if we were all just one big happy family online but we are not and we never will be so.

    Great post.

    Patrick.

P.S. I refer to the same topic in one of my newsletter articles tomorrow where I will invite my readers to visit this post and see what you have written here too because this is a subject that people really need to get to grips with.

Hi Andrew, I’ve missed a few of your post lately but I’m sure as hell glad I saw this one.
I have to admit that I do tend to pull my punches. On Sweeva as an example I just can’t be bothered to suggest to one more person that a photo instead of a shadow or ghost would help. But you are right I am not doing anyone a favor by not mentioning it. And I’ve noticed that it doesn’t matter how soft you make the blow…people will still take offense. So I hung my head shamefully as I read your post and have made a decision that I need to get off the f&#*@ing pot and speak up.

    Hi Patrick, Larry, Jon

Given this post was created whilst listening to the 3 of you talking in TE Live it’s not really a surprise to see you all like this post. It’s essentially your words written in my style, so just glad I’ve done them justice.

I don’t think I’ve got any haters, the only reply I had was from someone trying to sell me something. I think perhaps that reply may become a future blog post.

How true is the saying ‘Sometimes the truth hurts’…. but actually you are telling someone the truth for his/her own good. Illustration…..Last year I corresponded with a guy for probably nine months. He was trying to build an online business just like me and fed me some useful information along the way. Around last Christmas he floated JSS Tripler before my eyes. Fortunately I have been around long enough to realise it did not make economic sense…tripling your investment every month….what a joke…so I told him so. You can imagine the reaction! After a few torrid emails I have never heard from him again. Hopefully I did him a favour…so I agree with you Andrew….shoot from the hip and in the long term you will gain respect. Maybe the guy I ‘ve mentioned will come back once he realises the mistake he has made.

Top post, Andrew. I’ll definitely be back here more often. And thanks for introducing me to a few things I’d never heard of before – Sweeva and TELive. I’ll be taking a look at both of those.

Right, time to GET REAL and ruffle a few feathers!!

    Cheers,
    Ray

So long as you upset the right people it’s all good ;) . An insipid blog isn’t worth reading.

I’m liking the fact those splinters are coming out of a UK **** one too many *s for the US version.
