The Return Of The $100 E-mail…

Hope you all had a great Christmas, and that the family you married into doesn’t have too many weirdo’s.

Now let’s get back on today’s topic, the $100 E-mail. You see throughout the year the return on my E-mail marketing has been falling, and sometimes I was doing well to get 100 opens far less $100 in earnings!

If you read this post through I’ll explain the reasons why I think that I’ve turned the corner and am back to results that I’m happy with. The first reason is that I’ve stopped safe-swapping. Yes, it was great to look at my stats and see that other people were generating hundreds of new leads for me, but the problem was that none of the leads were buying anything in the my marketing funnel, and I was taking the piss out of my exisiting list by sending them to sites where the quality of the freebie / list ower was questionable.

I’m not tagging every member of safe-swap with this brush, but for after 3 months I was making less than before I started using it, and basically it had to go.

So now I’m back to my regular source of safelist traffic and forum / blog commenting the numbers of new leads are much less, but due to the higher quality of visitor the marketing funnel has starting sending more KaChing’s again.

Clickthrough rates have soared, and the level of money generated from my broadcasts is also increasing.

Now I’ve also been listening to what the market is saying, and that is that the 2010 has been the year of clickbank copycat marketing where you create a slick blind salespage exposing a money making glitch, and for $37 you too can make a few thousand dollars in less than a week with no work on your part. I hope this is thankfully coming to an end, and that 2011 is going to be the year of the ethical marketer.

The products I’m going to focus on promoting in 2011 are going to be from people who I’ve met personally, WSO’s with social proof, or something that I’ve bought and actually make a positive return on my investment.

Speaking of WSO it was the excellent digilistbuilder plugin WSO that made $135 worth of sales both times I mailed out for. If you want to know how you can profit from other users of the Warrior Forum buy this special offer from AJ Silvers.

Promoting an offer like this is very different to a clickbank launch. For a start I wasn’t given all the “copy & paste” lauch e-mails to use – I had to actually think about what to write! Which meant that I wasn’t competing against every other lazy affiliate marketer trying to make a fast buck!

If you’re the only person promoting an offer, and you’ve written a good subject line then you will stand out from the crowd who are pushing the newest shiny thing.

The other great thing about promoting a WSO like this is the social proof aspect. Unlike a traditional salespage the buyers of the product can come back and leave instant reviews of the product. Trust me if a WSO doesn’t deliver then people won’t muck about when it comes to leaving feedback.

Lastly customer service is also important, so I knew from buying the plug-in and getting an instant reply to my question that should anything not go properly that you would also be getting good customer support. If I send you a product and the customer support is non-existant then I’m associated with the bad customer support, and I end up being the bad guy by association.

So in summary what I’m saying is that by going back to basics and getting real people who want to learn some real marketing on my list rather than opportunity seekers I’m making more money from less people.

Enjoy the rest of your holidays, hopefully I’m going back to Pitlochry for New Year, so you might not hear from me again until 2011

If that is the case, happy hogmany, don’t have too much booze

Why Did I Promote Lucrative List Secrets?

So over the past week you’ve received several e-mails from me about Glen Hopkin’s Lucrative List Secrets 2.0 course

Now this course is not cheap, at $1,997 it’s probably much much more than most you have lying about in your paypal account. So if none of you are able or willing to buy it then why I am promoting it?

Simple – It’s a product I fully believe will help you, and I’d rather earn 1 massive commission from a product like this than 100 commissions for a crappy $37 clickbank product that it overhyped, a waste of money, and owned by someone who is going to hit you with multiple upsells and generally try to scam you silly.

But the main reason was that Glen used the personal touch to get affiliates promoting.

When Glen first released the ebook version of his Amazon best seller Luctative List Building I was one of the first to grab resale rights and still make the odd sale every now and again.

This connection still runs strong, and coupled with the fact I did some technical support for some of his sites when he was using the old LFM script meant that I’m in his skype contacts and list of JV partners.

Initially my reaction had been that I didn’t think any of you guys & gals on my list would go for a product at this price range, but when I saw all the pre-launch goodies and hooks that Glen had in place I thought it’s worth a punt, and even if no-one buys at least I’m helping out a friend rather than just putting you on a pre-launch list where you’ll get hundreds of offers and no content.

If you’ve watched and downloaded the pre-launch content or looked at Glen’s blog you’ll realise the content being given away is top notch and the ideas are actionable.

Now speaking of pre-launch it was fantastic value…

The plug-in for listbuilding on your blogs was also brilliant, and if you’re just starting out it’s a great way to turn readers into subscribers. I personally hate pop-ups and always close them, so I feel a hypocrite using them, but I did install it on this blog and it worked, although I need to tweak my theme before I leave it fully enabled.

I used the content about hiring on fiverr, and got 500 hits to my squeezepage. Granted the traffic turned out to be rubbish, but I feared the worse when the worker told me they couldn’t put @username in the tweets as the software wouldn’t allow it. Like everything I will need to kiss a few frogs to find a prince.

Sadly I don’t do facebook, so I skipped that part, but it’s probably a massive traffic source that I’m totally ignoring.

So pre-launch over, it was time for the usual video sales letter, but again Glen is an honest marketer, he’s telling you upfront exactly what is in the course, how much it costs, the number of modules, and who is going to be training you in the art of list building.

The people Glen network’s with are all great genuine marketers, no fly by night people, but proven experienced experts who will show you how to do everything. I got taught a load of stuff by Dan Kelly years ago in his MiniSitesMadeEasy course that I now take for granted and use all the time.

Getting access to those contacts is probably in itself worth the $1997 if you have a product idea and are thinking of launching your own website.

So although I know this is probably out of your price range I thought I’d share why I had to tell you about it.

Anyway it’s getting late now, and I need to pack for going to Glasgow tomorrow. Going out for the annual 12 pubs of Christmas with old scouting friends. Should be a good night, and the first time Amanda & I will have been out drinking together in a long time. Here’s hoping I don’t get totally sloshed and make a tit of myself!

Happy List Building

Andrew

p.s. I’ll leave you with a remark from Glen – “If people want something real bad, that’s what credit cards are for”
