The 5 Things You Need To Start Building A List

Here’s a short video < 3  minutes that outlines the 5 things you need to have if you want to actually start building a list and selling to them via email marketing.

  • Register a Domain – I use http://www.namecheap.com
  • Set up a Hosting Account – I have accounts with HostGator & KioskIf you need help figuring out the DNS and other stuff then please visit DiscoverCpanel
  • FTP software to upload files from your computer onto the internet – search google to get something suitable for your computer, eg “free ftp software + windows Vista”
  • A WYSIWYG html editor – I use Ewen Chia’s My Website Builder
  • A reputable 3rd party autoresponder to manage the list – I would strongly recommend Aweber
  • Now you don’t have to use exactly the same services as me, so if you do have alternative services please post a comment with links to the service that you use.

I use the same host, domain resister and think Cpanel is great.

To FTP I use a simple, free, easy to set up program http://niftyftp.com/

I use DreamWeaver for my sites but also use My Website Builder to be familiar with it since so many of my downline are using it.

For an autoresponder I use http://botipton.com/likes/trafficwave.html
because of the owner and support. The owner takes an active part in helping build your business and support is next to none. Aweber and Getresponse are great services and I have used both but I have had better success at Trafficwave getting help setting everything up.

      Thanks

      Hi Andrew,
FileZilla is a good free ftp tool that you can get from filezilla.com.
I did a video on how to use it a while back that people can see here: -

      cheers,

    5. Hi Andrew,

You are right on everyone needs everything you mention here. As far as alternative services I use 1and1.com for most of the services you have mentioned. Hosting, Domain Registration, purchasing new domains, they even have WYSIWYG website builder and host my blog as well as my website. I have been with them since early 2002 and have been extremely satisfied with the support, anytime I have a question I pick up the phone, call, give them my acccount number and they help me fix the problem. Here is a link to them

Autoresponders Like aweber are fantastic and it is probably the most used AR on the web. There is also getresponse and email aces amondst a slew of others. I have found that Henrik Wanner is giving away a pretty neat AR for free and offering an upgrade for only 10.00 a month. I have been using it for one of my sites for about 2 months now and it is working great. I used the free service but will very likely upgrade really soon.

There are also numerous Autoresponders that you can upload to your own server or have right on your desktop and ones like Traffic Wave or adland pro that add a lot of extra htings like certain amounts of trafic generation to the actual autreponder.

      Excellent, Andrew.

Short and simple – makes a change from 30 minutes of convoluted BS that usually ends up with a $1,000 price tag – or more!

    7. Heather says:

      Hi:
I have built my own site using my free website builder. The video was good. I am sort of new to all this. Had to learn by myself. I just need help with getting my site out there. If you can look at my site and let me know how I can make it better, that would be great. Its not easy being new on the internet. Thanks for the video
      from Heather

      Nice post Andrew,

      Short, simple and totally relevant!

Personally – I like D9 hosting, affordable but with the added extra of amazing customer service.

I agree with Matt, Filezilla is a great free ftp client, and I also have a free tutorial available for the free download at
      http://www.monthlybargains.co.uk/easyftp/index.html

NVU does fine for me as an html editor, which as you say is the one Ewen based his one on. I see Ewen has video instruction for his too :)

And Aweber has always been a great service, but I now exclusively use http://www.WizardResponder.com – which is priced for beginners at less than half the major companies.
(Oh I do own a piece of it , so I could be biased, but would invite you to shout me if you would like a look around the service Andrew)

      Warm Regards

      Hi there Andrew, TrudyVan here

Great advice. I train in a live Voip Conference room and our free members get a Proresponder. So this is another free resource for our internet friends that are learning to make it on the net
      Kindest regards
      TrudyVan

    10. Anatoly says:

Simple and Clear.I use FileZilla for a long time and can give it 5 star. The same would say about Aweber and Getresponse.
Thank you all the guys who provide very valuable information in their comments!

    11. Andrew, thanks for the info. I use http://www.GoDaddy.com for my domain names and http://www.hostgator.com for my hosting. http://www.filezilla.com is my FTP of choice. I use a couple of different editors; NVU, Web Page Maker and have download your recommended My Website Builder. As for an auto-responder, I haven’t made up my mind yet but I need to do that soon.

      Thanks again.

    12. Thanks Andrew,
I use all the resources from a membership site at:
      http://www.myscribeweb.com
Advantage here is that you get the script to your own autoresponder with no monthly fees.
FTP + html editor + all the graphics and PLR products.
      Domain name at Godaddy.
      Hosting at Hostgator.
      Cheers,
      Kitty.

    13. Ken says:

Your videos presentation was absolutely a Masterpiece and very intuitive.
Thank you for making Creating Squeeze page video available. I had always wanted to know how to create one. These marketing tools are priceless

    15. Hello,

I agree with you. DiscoverCpanel is a great place to start.

I use it all the time.

Ewen Chia’s My Website Builder, a great one also. I have made some with it. Great way to start.

But I use ISO Register for
AR. It has every thing to build your web page.

      http://www.ad-alyzer.com/727/successhighway

It took me under 30min, to build one. very easy to do.

Plus like you said, you need a AR to stay with you list. The owner Darryl Graham is a great guy. Always on top of things. He gives you his personal phone and email so you can contact him personally. Answers fast.

I have used the other AR which I will not mention.

But ISO is free with the quality of a high priced AR. Free no ads, you are in total control.

It has your WYSIWYG html editor built right in there. No need to use any thing alse:-)

      Thank you.

    16. These are very helpful videos, I really enjoy the learning experiance. Very good value here and worth the time to get familiar with everything. This type of content sells for a lot of money online.

    17. Cyza says:

Thanks a lot for making this video. I really want to be an IM and I’m really learning from your fantastic short and compact videos.

What I’m really looking for is to learn how to make those squeeze page…

      Cheers mate

    18. Floyd says:

Thank You so much for this info. I was missing 3 of these elements. I now have to get a hosting company, FTP, & DNS, then I will be set. I am so thankful to you for just laying it out for us.

      Floyd

    19. Max says:

Great introduction to squeeze pages, Andrew.
You’re right, Nvu is not around any longer. It’s still worth getting Ewen Chia’s website builder and then download Kompozer from http://kompozer.net/ – Kompozer is an updated version of Nvu, it’s free and much more stable. I’m using it to build my non-WP sites.

      Max

      Thanks Andrew, great Info,
I just signed on to a host called “Super Green Hosting” for all who are environmentally conscience. They use C-panel and plant a tree for every 100 customers.
