TweeterGetter – Genius, Evil, or Evil Genius?
So for the past few days GaryMcaffery has been the most retweeted person, and it’s all down to a site called TweeterGeeter.com Now when I first saw this I thought it was just annoying twitterspam, but the results Gary’s achieving are impressive, and worthy of discussion here.
At the time of writing Retweetist shows over 1500 people have tweeted his message in the past 24 hours, so it shows that the site is achieving it’s aim of using twitter to generate traffic, making it a genius piece of marketing.
Now the marketing side of things is where the evil starts to creep into the equation…
The whole basis of twitter as a community is that information is freely shared between like minded people. I don’t know about you, but if someone follows me I go and check out their profile. If they have maxed out the 2,000 following limit then I know not to follow them back as they’ve read somewhere in a cheap ebook that following loads of people on twitter is a good way to generate traffic.
It’s this aspect of the tweetergetter that’s annoyed people within the twitter community who’ve worked hard to produce content and share ideas. If twitter were to become flooded with spammers then it would quickly lose it’s mainstream coverage it’s now achieving.
So before you go off and start posting your twitter links all over the internet make sure that you actually have some content and conversations on the page and not a splurge of affiliate link.
As I used MrTweet to follow only the movers and shakers in the Internet Marketing Field I’ve been able to see who’s retweeted along with many discussions on blogs. As you can probably tell by reading the opinions of people like Gary Ambrose & Mark Joyner I’ve changed my mind about the site, and based on this I’m able to recommend that you tweetergetter a quick retweet.
But remember that to get the best results you should make contact with your new followers, and don’t go wild pester people with your link.
Andrew
Look forward to reading your comments, and here’s a great little twitter tip I picked up from BobTheTeacher
Link will open in a new window, and please edit your post to just Genius, Evil, or Evil Genius

Great post Andrew. I used TweeterGetter without putting to much thought into it; being a member of many of the ListBuilder type sites I’m used to the concept of building a downline.
I’ve also come across many elite twitter users berating anyone that likes TweeterGetter and accusing them of being spammers.
As a marketing tool the site has done very well, the lovers and the haters are all talking about it. I would agree with you… if you use it just make sure that you provide content to the Twitter community and post links to your blog and informative articles and not just a stream of affiliate links.
Thanks for posting,
Karl
